Destined for Dust
When you look up into the eyes of a dying star It winks and waits till you leave You marvel at its magnitude from so very far That you're not even that fun to deceive Your friendly neighbourhood sun veers into vacuum Every so often, at the first sign of trouble You're all alone on a big turning ball, so we’ll assume You'll at least step out of your own little bubble But time stretches infinite ahead and behind While you can't remember what you had for dinner Another calendar slips off the wall undefined And you're just more of an expert at being a beginner Getting older was never about having more answers Just wiser with the questions to fill up your day More melodies don’t develop defter dancers Only help you pick when to sway, when to stay So as planets whirl with whimsy and it gets harder to find That light through the void- that you called your voice Choosing what- or who- is worth losing your mind Is your unassailable-if your only-true choice That winking star just hides the next black hole Either way, we're destined for dust It's worth risking ashes if it fires your soul You can never know, but you'll just have to trust.
